Formed by a design collective of three friends, Yaccomaricard began in 1977 as a fashion project in Harajuku, Tokyo. The founders were fashion graduate Mariko Watanabe, photographer Ricardo Watanabe and Yacco Hayata; a graduate of the highly respected Bunka Fashion College whose alumni include Kenzo Takada and Yohji Yamamoto. Their aim was to break away from the constraints of conventional Japanese clothing of the time using oversized shapes in an excess of luxurious natural fabrics that could act as an expression of their lifestyle. Their journey led them to the refinement and mastering of techniques such as the garment dye process and hand placed pin tuck work - characteristics now synonymous with the brand.

Characterized by rich color, hand worked detail and exceptional natural materials - the creation of loose fitting clothing as tools of self-expression has become the core of each collection and an urban, casually refined look was born.

Patternmaking is considered a form of art due to the highly complex nature of manipulating a flat piece of fabric to conform to the curves of the human body. At Yaccomaricard, the fit and movement of each garment has paramount influence during the creation process due to the brand's longstanding belief that the wearer needs pieces that fit and compliment their lifestyle.

The discovery, development and selection of superior fabrics are fundamental in Yaccomaricard's mission for the highest quality clothes. All of Yacco's fabrics are sourced in Asia. The foundation pieces of each collection are made in cotton lawn, cotton broad, cotton jersey, silk and katsugari.

Yaccomaricard is proud to produce the garments in a privately owned factory based in Thailand. Having their own facilities allows them to ensure the highest quality of their products as well as the highest standard of working conditions for their employees.

The brand is known for its unique selection of colors, which is achieved by mixing the colors in house and dyeing each piece after their construction.

We will be showing the Spring/Summer 2023 collection at Los Angeles Market Week - July 31st to August 3rd - at the JP Represents Showroom, Gerry Building, Suite 702, and at Curate International Collections in New York - September 16th to 18th.
